Thank you for using the Systems Thinking Voices In Canada (STVIC) website (the “Site”). By visiting or registering on our website, you agree to comply with and be bound by the following terms and conditions. If you do not agree to these terms, please do not visit or register on the website.
1) Purposes of the Systems Thinking Voices In Canada website
The STVIC website is a noncommercial open source searchable directory with associated activities and resources designed to connect users with people, educational institutions, professional services, and organizations that are oriented to:
a) teaching and learning systems thinking skills and tools that enhance one’s quality of life;
b) promoting the collective wellbeing and self determination of the systems thinking community that exists, whether past or present, in the Canadian context.
2) List of Terms used on the Systems Thinking Voices In Canada website
a) “systems thinking” Systems thinking is intended in the general conceptual definition while acknowledging present day variations in its definitions used by the diverse systems thinking communities. On this website, the term “systems thinking” is used in all titles intended to includes disciplines that are rightfully named systems sciences, system science, systems science, and system sciences and are encouraged by registrants to be named appropriately by STVIC registrants in their submitted content. Systems thinking concepts includes all concepts that are foundational to or derived from the formal Systems Thinking discipline. Many disciplines are named within systems thinking that includes both theoretic and applied disciplines such as systems engineering, simulation sciences, systemic design, dynamical systems, system dynamics, cybernetics, general systems theory, complexity theory, critical systems thinking/heuristics, and more. The scope of systems thinking applications encompasses the traditional arts, the sociocultural and physicobiological sciences, the technical sciences, and the newer multidisciplinary integrations of these domains.
b) “user” Users of the STVIC website includes people (visitors) whose website experience is limited to viewing the website as well as people (registrants) who choose to register their personal information on the site. Because all sections of the STVIC website are open source and unrestricted to users at all times a user account service is not deemed beneficial to the operation or purposes of the site.
c) “visitor” Visitors to the STVIC includes people whose website experience is limited to viewing the website.
d) “registrant” Registrants on the STVIC website are people who choose to publish their personal information on the site. Presence on the STVIC website equates with presence in The Directory section of the website and presence in the STVIC community.
e) “Canadian context” This term identifies the social, cultural, political, economic, and historical circumstances that are specific to Canada that can exist within or beyond Canada’s borders. The term recognizes the mutual nature of benefit experienced by systems thinkers through their various learner activities, professional projects or everyday activities taking place in Canada or overseas as a Canadian person, or in Canada as a non-Canadian person.
3) User Responsibilities
As a user, you agree to:
a) Use the website in compliance with all applicable laws and regulations.
b) Be accountable for all information submitted to the Site.
c) Respect the rights of other users.
d) Keep STVIC informed of updates to the email address used to register on the Site.
As a user, you agree not to:
a) Use the website for any illegal or unauthorized purpose.
b) Submit any content that is false, misleading, defamatory, obscene, or otherwise objectionable.
c) Engage in harassing, abusive, or threatening behaviour which may result directly or indirectly from using the Site.
d) Manipulate or interfere with the functionality of the site or any service provided through the Site.
e) Harvest, collect or use any personal information of other users without consent.
4) Content Submission
If you submit any content to the STVIC website , you grant Systems Thinking Voices In Canada the right to use, reproduce, modify, publish, and distribute that content for the purposes outlined in the Terms of Service. You represent and warrant that you have the necessary rights to submit such content in accordance with Personal Privacy laws.
5) Intellectual Property Rights
a) All content, features, and functionality of the Site, including text, graphics, and logo are the property of Systems Thinking Voices In Canada and are protected by intellectual property laws; except therein content submitted by STVIC registrants for which they already own the intellectual property, identified by the registrant’s name. All registrants submitting content grant royalty-free rights to the STVIC for its use for the purposes outlined in the Terms of Service.
b) Users may not use any content on the Site without express permission.
6) Disclaimer of Liability
The Site is provided on an “as-is” and “as-available” basis. Systems Thinking Voices In Canada does not guarantee the accuracy, reliability, or completeness of any information or content provided through the Directory. Under no circumstances will Systems Thinking Voices In Canada be liable for any direct, indirect, incidental, consequential, or punitive damages arising from your use of the Site.
7) Termination
We reserve the right to suspend or terminate your registration with the Directory at any time, with or without notice, for any conduct that we believe violates the Terms of Service or is harmful to other users or the Site.
8) Governing Law
This Terms of Service shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of Alberta, Canada without regard to its conflict of law principles.
